Pinzimonio - Book Illustration
Each person has a small, individual bowl in which he mixes oil, salt and pepper to his own preference. They also share an assortment of fresh vegetables. They then dip their vegetables into the bowl.
This is a traditional snack in my family, especially among my brother and I in the afternoons or early evening before dinner.
Caldarroste - Book Illustration
Roasted chestnuts on the fire.
It's a holiday (Christmas) family tradition, to eat roasted chestnut after every meal.
As soon as the person roasting the chestnuts brings the pan to the table my grandfather (and sometimes my mother) automatically yell "bring the milk" because there's an old (Italian) wives tale that says you cannot eat chestnut with water, you must drink either wine or milk.
